These are our five tips to help you succeed when studying through an online course.
- Once you have decided upon your course, your ultimate aim will probably be to pass the final exam or complete the course fully. This can seem a long way off on a long term course, so set yourself periodic goals and plan how you will achieve them. For instance, this could be to pass an assessment at the end of each module. By setting smaller targets, you should find them easier to achieve, which should in turn help keep you motivated for the duration of the course. Reward yourself when you reach each set target, but don’t be afraid to move targets if you find the course easier or harder than expected. 2. Adjust your daily routine so that studying becomes part of your normal day. Remember to take regular breaks to keep you interested. Try to keep an area of your home specifically for studying. 3. Ensure you have adequate internet access and the required speed to view video tutorials, download coursework and take part in online lectures or discussions. 4. Read the course providers FAQ page to understand the process of how their online courses work. Don’t be afraid to contact the tutor for help as and when required. Communicate with other students and access online coursework and interactive tools to assist your studies. Carry out additional research if required in a library, museum or similar.
- Important: Back your work up regularly. Always keep a copy on a pen drive, cloud or similar just in case your computer breaks down.
