What is a Level 4 Qualification and how does it compare?
We can compare level four qualifications by grouping together the different types of UK qualifications available currently with those also issued in the past. The level 4 qualification list includes certificate of higher education (CertHE), higher apprenticeship, higher national certificate (HNC), level 4 award, level 4 certificate, level 4 diploma and the level 4 NVQ.

In Scotland, Education levels are different with level 4 equivalent to Scottish level 7 which includes Higher National Certificate (HNC), Modern Apprenticeship, PDA, SVQ 3, Certificates of Higher Education (CertHE) and the Scottish Baccalau.

In the Republic of Ireland level 4 qualifications are equivalent to the Level 6 Advanced Certificate and the Higher Certificate.

In mainland Europe, level 4 qualifications are equivalent to European Qualifications Framework Level 5.
