Free Online Training Courses

There are a wide range of free online courses available. These include short courses to improve basic English or Maths, plus general interest courses, recognised qualification courses and introductory or taster courses for those considering studying more long term in a new subject.
Free online training courses allow you to study at your own pace meaning you can complete the course as quickly or slowly as you wish. Many of the courses include online video tutorials and assessments, plus email correspondence with tutors, so access to the internet will be required.
The Government is committed to improving the education of the nation so many courses are fully funded to the basic skills level (see qualifications page). This is to encourage job seekers to achieve the skills and confidence required for employment or equip those considering a change of career by helping them achieve the qualification requirements of alternative employment.

The Government and some businesses also offer long term re-training initiatives to those that meet the criteria. This might include funding the training of new trade skills for those made redundant or apprenticeships for the long term unemployed.
Course providers may also offer free introductory courses as a taster before the student commits to a long term course leading to a recognised qualification (ie: A level or Degree). Fully funded or subsidised mid to long term courses which lead to approved national qualifications are also available to those on certain benefits.
Eligibility criteria varies depending on the course and provider. You will find a diverse range of free distance learning courses that includes English, Maths or Numeracy, Food and Catering, Gardening, Health, History, Information Technology (IT), Languages, Media Studies, Science, Sports and Fitness , Business, Environmental, Art, Health and Performing Arts.
